How VantGrid handles privacy

What we don't collect

This website uses no analytics or advertising trackers. VantGrid has no central account server or message inbox. Optional app reports and Steam Demo usage measurement are described below. No VantGrid-operated server stores the following:

• Your email address or phone number.
• Your real name.
• Your friends list, group memberships, or social graph.
• The text of your messages.
• The audio of your voice calls.
• The files you share with friends.

What stays on your device

Your VantGrid identity (a cryptographic key), your friends list, your settings, and your message history all live on your own device. Encrypted. If you pair another device of yours, those two devices sync directly with each other; the sync data also never touches our servers. Pairing another device also shares your identity private key with that device so it can use the same identity.

About the relay network

VantGrid uses a public network of independent relay computers to help your device find your friend's device. The relays see encrypted envelopes addressed to a public key — they cannot read the contents. They may log IP addresses of clients that connect to them; this is a property of the public relay network, not of VantGrid.

If we ever operate a VantGrid-branded relay, we'll publish its operating policy and update this page.

Optional app diagnostics

Crash and connection-error reports are optional, off by default, and require separate consent in the app. They go to Sentry and may include a random installation UUID, app and system versions, device class, and limited technical diagnostics. They exclude message, call, and file content; friends' names; VantGrid addresses; private keys; and ICE candidate IPs. Sentry may receive your IP address and standard request metadata separately from the report fields. The project is configured in the United States. Turning reports off in Settings → Privacy stops future sends, but does not delete data already received.

Optional Steam Demo usage measurement

Only the Steam Demo offers this measurement. It is off by default and requires separate consent from crash reports. It counts app opens, onboarding completion, direct and group messaging actions (without message text), selected attempts to use features blocked by Demo limits, and clicks on the option to view the full game on Steam. The click is counted before the attempt to open the store; it does not confirm that Steam opened or that a purchase occurred. Events exclude message, file, call, or screen content; profile data; contacts; VantGrid addresses; keys; and account, device, installation, or session IDs. They go to a separate Sentry project configured in the United States. Sentry may receive the IP address and standard HTTPS request metadata separately from event fields. Settings → Privacy stops future sends and clears unsent counters, but does not cancel an in-flight request or erase data already received. Retention follows the project's settings and Sentry's policies. The measurement also counts successful friend additions and attempts blocked by the Demo friend limit.

Children

VantGrid is not directed at children under 13. We do not ask for a birth date. Optional app reports and Demo measurements are not used to identify or verify anyone's age.
